Fins Up for a Good Cause: Jimmy Buffett Day in Kansas City
Annually on the Friday of Labor Day Weekend, Margaritaville properties celebrate Jimmy Buffett Day to honor Jimmy's legacy by giving back and volunteering within our communities. Jimmy valued community, connection, and giving back with a little fun along the way. This year, our Margaritaville Hotel Kansas City team traded a little time in paradise for time spent giving back to Kansas City and bringing our community together for a day filled with giving back, live music, and plenty of island-inspired fun!
Giving Back to our Kansas City Community
As part of Margaritaville's annual Day of Service, we were proud to volunteer at one of Habitat for Humanity Kansas City's ReStore locations. Our team rolled up our sleeves and spent the day helping their mission of empowering individuals and families through affordable housing throughout the Kansas City area.
The partnership was part of a larger Margaritaville-wide effort supporting both local organizations and Singing For Change, the nonprofit organization founded by Jimmy Buffett in 1995 to support grassroots organizations making a difference in their communities.
At Habitat for Humanity Kansas City, our team was able to help load and unload merchandise, assemble furniture, appliances, trim, tile, scrap metal and paint, and help make the ReStore a clean, safe and shoppable store.
Keeping the Party Going
In honor of Jimmy Buffett's legacy, we then invited the community to keep the party going at Margaritaville Hotel Kansas City's outdoor resort-style pool for family-friendly activities, sweet treats, and lots of fun!
In honor of Jimmy Buffett Day, we introduced two specialty cocktails: Sunshine State of Mind, made with Bacardi Superior Light Rum, Deep Eddy Lemon, strawberry puree and lemonade, and Caribbean Heat, featuring Espolòn Blanco Tequila, Margaritaville Triple Sec, house margarita blend, jalapeño syrup and pineapple. For each specialty cocktail purchased, $1 was donated to Habitat for Humanity of Kansas City and another $1 to Singing For Change.
The Tony Alvarez Duo kicked off the music on our new Kona Big Wave-sponsored stage before Lost Wax kept the party going into the evening. Guests snapped photos in the 360PixKC photobooth, had their portraits drawn by Fine Tooners caricature artists, painted shells, made bracelets, enjoyed face painting and gathered around for s'mores as the sun went down.
Our new poolside BBQ offering, The Shack, served up chicken and fish tacos, followed by complimentary churros. Guests could even cool down with our Mango Wave Sorbet, created in collaboration with Kansas City favorite Betty Rae's.
And because every good party needs a few surprises, the night wrapped up with giveaways from our Margaritaville and community partners, including $200 value Margaritaville bag, a 2-night stay at Margaritaville Hotel Kansas City, a 2-night stay at Margaritaville San Diego Gaslamp Quarter, Margaritaville merchandise, and a 'Best of KC' prize package including gift cards and donations from Sporting KC, Union Station Kansas City, the KC Wheel, Tanger Kansas City at Legends, Sea Life Aquarium, and more.
Fins Up, All Year Long
Jimmy Buffett Day is about more than a single celebration. It's a reminder of what the Margaritaville state of mind is all about: finding reasons to celebrate, connecting with the people around you and taking care of the communities you call home.
Since opening our doors in Kansas City, we've loved becoming part of this community. Our second Jimmy Buffett Day gave us another opportunity to celebrate everything we love about our Kansas City home while supporting organizations doing important work both here and beyond.
