Water Safety in Panama City Beach

At Margaritaville Beach Cottage Resort, we are dedicated to ensuring a safe and enjoyable stay for all our guests. In partnership with Panama City Beach, we proudly support several essential safety guidelines that protect both our visitors and the natural beauty of our shoreline.

The Flag System

The Flag System provides a simple, effective way to communicate water conditions. Always check for flags before entering the water, and adhere to the safety recommendations.

Purple: Marine life (e.g., jellyfish) present in the water.

Green: Calm conditions, but exercise caution.

Yellow: Moderate surf and/or currents. Swim with caution.

Red: Dangerous conditions with strong waves and/or currents. Swimming is not advised. Wading deeper than knee-deep may result in a fine.

Double Red: Water is closed to the public due to hazardous conditions.

Non-compliance with these safety warnings, especially from Panama City Beach Fire Rescue, is prohibited and unlawful. Violators may face fines.

Leave No Trace

We believe in keeping the beach beautiful for everyone. The Leave No Trace initiative encourages visitors to clean up after themselves, ensuring the beach stays pristine. Whether it’s trash, beach towels, or personal items, please take everything with you when you leave. By doing so, we all contribute to the sustainability of this stunning paradise.

Rip Current Swimming Advisories

Rip currents can be hazardous, especially for those unfamiliar with local conditions. Panama City Beach provides Rip Current Swimming Advisories to alert swimmers to dangerous currents. If caught in a rip current, stay calm and swim parallel to the shore to break free. Always pay attention to advisories and warnings to ensure your safety. March Beach Ordinance

To maintain a safe, family-friendly environment, Panama City Beach enforces a No Drinking on the Beach ordinance during the month of March. This policy prohibits alcohol consumption on the sand.

By following these guidelines, you can ensure a safe, fun-filled visit to the beach. Margaritaville Beach Cottage Resort supports these safety practices and encourages everyone to enjoy the beauty of Panama City Beach responsibly.
