Breeze Airways, Bradley International Airport, and Margaritaville Hotels & Resorts Host First Autism Double-Checked Family Trip
Guests to Travel from an Autism Double-Checked Certified Airport, On a Certified Airline, to a Certified Resort with Guidance from an ADC Certified Travel Advisor
Breeze Airways, the high-value, low-cost airline combining affordable fares and modern amenities for a Seriously Nice travel experience, in partnership with Autism Double-Checked (ADC), Bradley International Airport, and Margaritaville Hotels & Resorts today hosted the very first full ADC certified trip for Guests with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and their families.
“Travel can be especially challenging for people with autism because every stage of the journey brings unfamiliar environments, sensory demands and changes in routine,” said Alan Day, Founder and CEO of Autism Double-Checked. “That is why autism readiness at every touchpoint is so important. By bringing together a certified airport, airline, resort and travel advisor, this trip gives families consistent support and understanding from the moment they arrive at Bradley until the moment they return home. This represents exactly what we have been working toward: turning the confidence gained through practice events like Autism Flies into the opportunity to take a real family vacation.”
Autism Double-Checked partners with companies across the travel and hospitality sector to offer training and certification, allowing families to easily search for autism-friendly companies, including hotels, travel advisors, airlines, and airports. Breeze was the first domestic commercial carrier to be certified by Autism Double-Checked, and Bradley International Airport was the first airport in the United States to be certified.
“Since shortly after Breeze's launch in 2021, we’ve partnered with Autism Double-Checked to ensure that every one of Breeze’s Guests is able to enjoy their travel experience,” said David Neeleman, Breeze Airways Founder and CEO. “Alongside our partners at Bradley International Airport, we have hosted a number of practice boarding events and have had a great response with the goal of empowering families to take that vacation they’ve always dreamed of. We’ve heard that these events have done just that, and we’re excited to welcome these Guests onboard for this trip and hopefully more in the future.”
“Over the last few years, Bradley International Airport has hosted several Autism Flies events, witnessing first-hand the confidence and travel opportunities it offers those on the autism spectrum and their families,” said Michael W. Shea, Executive Director & CEO of the Connecticut Airport Authority. “As the first airport in the country to be Autism Double-Checked Certified, it’s meaningful that today’s first-ever Autism Double-Checked-certified trip, in partnership with Breeze Airways, departs from Bradley Airport, creating a seamless and memorable journey for the passengers onboard.”
Under the guidance of Rachel Morelli, an Autism Double-Checked certified travel advisor, a group of about 30 Guests – including 2 families who have attended practice boardings previously – departed from Bradley International Airport on August 18 and flew nonstop with Breeze Airways to Fort Myers, Fla., to enjoy a 5-day, 4-night stay at the Margaritaville Beach Resort Fort Myers Beach.
"We’re excited to welcome these families to Margaritaville Beach Resort Fort Myers Beach and to be part of an experience that creates meaningful vacation memories,” said Yenier Marrero, General Manager at Margaritaville Beach Resort Fort Myers Beach. “Our Autism Double-Checked certification reflects our commitment to helping make travel more welcoming and accessible for families, and we’re proud to support this important milestone."
"This partnership is very special because every family deserves the chance to experience an unforgettable vacation,” said Rachel Morelli of Travelmation. “Too many families affected by autism avoid travel because it can seem overwhelming, and we want to shift that mindset. As both a BCBA and an accessible travel advisor, I'm passionate about helping remove those barriers. Partnering with Autism Double-Checked and its ADC-certified partners, Bradley International Airport, Breeze Airways, and Margaritaville Hotels & Resorts, allowed us to create a trip where families feel supported, understood, and can truly relax. My hope is that this experience inspires many more great adventures for these families in the years to come.”
