Get some fresh air and activity together with a scenic hike or walk at Sam Houston National Forst. Less than a half hour drive from Lake Conore, you’ll find dozens of maintained trails, perfect for exploring the piney forests and getting a unique view of the lake.

For a mellow family-friendly hike we recommend checking out 3.5 mile Lone Star Hiking Trail to Double Lake, which perimeters the lake and offers ample grassy spots for a picnic lunch. Keep an eye out for snapping turtles and butterflies that reside in the area!
